Job Description

Supervisor/Special Police OfficerGrade 9NE– The Supervisor/Special Police Officer at Chesapeake College is responsible for providing a uniform presence to ensure the safety and security of all occupants and facilities on the Wye Mills campus.  Duties include but are not limited to the scheduling of full and temporary security guards, answering emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance, conducting safety patrols/crime prevention, securing buildings, and reporting safety or security violations/issues. They will be required to maintain First Aid, CPR and A.E.D. certifications, and complete any training (24 hrs. minimum annually) which is deemed necessary by the Director of Public Safety. The Supervisor/Special Policy Officer is designated as “essential personnel” and is required to report for duty at all times, including inclement weather, holidays, and during college closures.  Work schedules consist of a 40 hour work week  and the employee may be required to work day, night, or weekend shifts as necessary. Overtime may be required with the employee having the option of pay or compensatory time. This position provides a comprehensive benefits package, uniforms, and all other necessary safety and security equipment. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School diploma or G.E.D., a minimum of three (3) years of excellent service as a police officer, military police, or special police/armed security is required, preferably with supervisory/scheduling experience. The applicant must be able to meet the qualifications for the award of a Special Police Commission and Handgun Carry Permit from the State of Maryland (Chesapeake College to sponsor the applicant). They must have a valid Maryland driver’s license and clean driving record. He/she must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, must have the ability to work unsupervised, in all weather conditions, be punctual, and have good interpersonal communication/social skills. Basic computer skills required.
