Job Description

The Assistant in Training works under the golf course superintendent and assistant golf course superintendent in a supervisory capacity. Responsibilities include delegating assignments, overseeing job performances and inspecting course conditions. This is a full time position.

  • Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew members and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and machinery use.
  • Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment and work methods.
  • Supervises special projects and labor crews.
  • Perform routine safety inspections on all spray equipment.
  • Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent.
  • Opens the maintenance shop and runs operations in the absence of the golf course superintendent and the assistant golf course superintendent.
  • Bachelor's or Associates in Turfgrass Science or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years golf course experience.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement.
  • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge in the safe mechanical operations and calibration of:
    1. Mechanically pressurized spray equipment
    2. Hand operated spray equipment
    3. Hand operated rotary spreader
